CAUTION: Political rant

I noticed a lot of people have already posted about the outcome of last night's election, now it's my turn. If you are reading this and are tired of people's bitching then just stop reading now, I don't want to have to read any comments about how I am complaining.
To quote Jesse:
abortion-gone
civil liberties- out the window
gay rights- whats that?
affirmative action- endangered species
environmental protection laws-history
all hail the great empire

What the fuck happened last night? I didn't want to go to sleep because I didn't want to have to wake up to another 4 years of Bush. Turns out I had to do that anyway. How could that man get re-elected? Sure, I know the re-election rate for presidents running for a second term but come on...it's Bush! It just doesn't make sense. How could he have so much support? The status quo can not be that popular.
I hate all the deception in our government. Like, for example, the draft rumors. That's pretty fucking scary! Basically, if anyone (man OR woman) is age 18-24 they can be called in for duty. Those already serving will have their tours extended and college is no longer a valid excuse to not serve. Last time there was a draft the poorer class was hit really hard and they complained so now the draft is targeting more middle class- basically college students. They want to pull kids out of college and ship them overseas to be part of a global referee no one wants around anymore. How can America afford to take kids out of college, aren't we ignorant enough!? Look at our president for christsake!! HE CHOKED ON A FUCKING PRETZEL!!!!!! He doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about and is embarrassing America. The US needs to work on the problems AT HOME (and trust me, there are many) before going off and playing super-country for other nations.
I'm terrified of a draft. As a pacifist I do not want to go to a strange country and die for a cause I don't believe in. I refuse to be one of Bush's pawns. It also really pisses me off that women are going to lose their abortion rights. What pissed me off the most about the election was that prop 2 actually passed! What the fuck?! Why are we regressing so much? The thing about Bush that irritates me the most is not his stupidity, it is his childishness. What was one of the first things we learned in kindergarten? Compromise! If you don't believe in something that's fine, no one can agree with everything, but don't ruin it for someone else. I can understand that Bush is pro-life (yet he supports the death penalty?) but he should have enough compassion for his constituents to make it legal. Women with unwanted pregnancies can get desperate, it isn't exactly socially acceptable to walk around with a child out of wedlock. Bus h needs to understand that if a woman is desperate enough they will go to ANY LENGTH to get an abortion. Question is would he rather said woman has a sterile abortion in a clean environment by a trained official or in a dirty back alley with a hanger? The latter has happened before and the results were not good.
Same goes for gay/lesbian marriage. If he's against it, fine, but don't go ruining it for everyone else. What really shows the government's deception was how this proposition was presented. It was presented as the gay marriage proposition. Nowhere did it mention the thousands of unmarried people living together who just lost their benefits too. It was portrayed as the gay marriage prop so more people would want it passed. That makes me sick.
I sincerely hope there is a place in Hell where Bush can live in the world he helped create. A world where he is a lesbian who happened to get knocked up but can't abort the baby and is forced to raise it (alone because she now can't get married) until it is 18 and shipped off to war. That version of hell just became reality for too many people.
pretzels, drafts, and pacifists...
Date: 2004-11-03 02:53 pm (UTC)You can not be drafted. When guys turn 18, they have to register for the draft. Thus the government puts all their names on a big list (probably in some sort of order) to pick off of. Females don't have to register for the draft. Thus, you can not be drafted. (They don't have your name on their fun list of doom.)
If females ever do have to sign up for the draft, there are 3 options. You can (a)just sign up, (b)sign up as a non-violent type (you'll probably get a job reloading stuff), or (c) as a military pacifist (this means that you have religious or moral disagreements with the war...they can still draft you, but you would probably end up working in a hospital or something).
Now you're on the up and up :-p
